more colours

my latest bit of crochet...
linking the lovely diagonal knitted squares...
that I get from Mum's friend....
one at a time...
in random colours...

the colours remind me of the colours of gemstones..
amber...amethyst...jade...emerald...
with the cream maybe...opal...

I used bits of leftover wool...so none of it matches...
anyway I think it linked together nicely...

Duffle Bag...maybe

had someone looking to make a bag...
they found some old denim jeans...
started to pull them apart...
and then left them in my stash...too hard...
so I found some contrasting pink leftover from someones pretty skirt..

the logistics of making the lining escapes me...
so I went with the shaggy style and cut the lining with the main shapes...
then sewed them together...rough I know...
plaited the seams to make one handle...
hopefully it will last for a while...
and its done...
hope they like it...

"Secrets" Mixed Media Art

I think this is where i left off last post........now i will try to show you the next steps i took to complete this mixed media collage..... .....a closer look.....

.....some more colour added with "Caran D'Ache" oil pastels , rubbed in

with my fingertips, & then in some areas i brushed the oil colour with a bit of turps,.....

......some detail showing the oil pastel.....

.........the sides of the canvas were also covered with tissue paper, words written with a red "Faber Castell" artist Pitt pen from a *landscape* pack, oil pastel rubbed over the top & again brushed with turps.....

.....detail of the focal point. the canvas measures 30x30 cm. or 12"x12".

So that's how it happened......i had no idea to begin with, it just came together as i added all the bits & pieces. after the faces were put in i found the little girl & the images brought out the message that i wanted to convey through this artwork.......the eyes are open but they don't always see what is right in front of them, sometimes they do see but choose to avert there eyes........the closed lips represent keeping the secret.

Mixed Media Art In Progress

Hello , did you all enjoy Easter?........thank you to everyone that came to visit us over the last few days. we do like it when you come to have a look at what we do. hope you found it interesting & come back to check out what we get up to on our blog.
we have slowed down a bit over the last few days......but we have been creating. Simonne has sent me a bag of goodies .......that i haven't even looked at yet! I'm sure i will find something to get me started on something new.
thought i would show you how some of my art work evolves sort of from nowhere to begin with......first.... ...... tissue paper that i use on my palette with the leftover paint......while it is still wet......

......pressed down & transferred to a small canvas.....

......let it dry.....

......tear the dried tissue paper & glue it onto the canvas along with other bits of paper from magazines......leave some of the painted canvas showing.....

.....add some pieces of painted envelopes...... at this stage something is developing & all the pieces are beginning to tell me a story...... more next time!

Flowers surprise

speaking of smiles...
this caught me the other day...
in my messy jungle of a garden...
these bromiliads decided to throw up their flowers...
just a sudden burst of colour in the green...
nice surprise...

Are You Smiling Today?

I hope you are......this is one of my favourite pieces of art......its old, its dirty, its worn......it has no name......its a print on board,.... i don't know how old it is.....i have had it since the seventies i think, (someone may be able to help me out with this)...... i am not sure who found it , (at the tip,* great treasures have been lost & found at rubbish tips*), my mother or my brother maybe?...... whatever its origin i am always happy to look at it....... it is a "feel good" painting. Some more pages from the "oriental theme" journal....... these are not my words, they were written by the artist that painted these pieces.......

You have to squint for this one......"Peking Opera 11" by Zhong Chen, oil & synthetic polymer paint on canvas.

And a little bit of humour for the day........what makes you feel good? .......what makes you smile?

Blue and Green again

well...here are the 'socks'....
from a previous post last year...
at the end of the cool weather...

it was not 'socks'...
it has grown to a wonky...saggy...baggy shruggy...
I enjoyed working with the colours and textures...
it's really soft and cuddly...
but it's so heavy and the stripes are wonky with the weight...

dont know what to do with it now...
but it's done...
