Embroidered Patchwork Cushion Cover

i would think twice about cutting someone else's work , but when it's mine i don't mind. i wasn't left with much of the quilt, just a few strips. so i stitched the good bits together to make a cushion cover.
i am not a very good patch worker, my pieces never match up.......i am not too worried , i have come to accept the fact that i am not a perfectionist. i am more interested in how i use colour, & if the finished product is useful.
i didn't try to match up the pieces so it is a bit random. the blanket stitching was the border of the quilt, but most of it was damaged. i salvaged what i could to give the cover a border.

the back is made from pieces of chenille from old bedspreads found at op shops.

now adding a sunny splash of colour to the  verandah.

365 Creative Challenge 2013

......i have been experimenting with moulding paste & paint this week, the big dots in the first collage.
cutting shapes from old watercolour paintings & recolouring with acrylic paint then glueing them onto painted paper, the third collage.
drawing green  circles with pitt pen onto a magazine page & colouring them with white & crimson acrylic paint, & making an orange grid pattern with crimson mixed with transparent yellow.
the others are torn & cut magazine paper & some painted paper.
i am finding colour is always near the top of my list when it comes to these collage exercises. seem to have a few circles & curves in the mix too. saying that i now see lines as well.

Trash to Treasure

i took photos of this chair in the sunshine, it was left on the kerb in my street, just the cane chair without cushions. so it found it's way to my place for some new cushions.......i found 3 remnants at the local fabric shop, they make a lot of soft furnishings so always have leftover pieces.
the  inserts covers i made from calico & the outer covers from two remnants of velvet, with piping made from a piece of printed cotton...... this is how it looked when it was finished..... ready for a new home.

 the fabrics......

 new cushions!
what do you think ?..... to paint or not to paint?

365 Creative Challenge

a bit of a mixture this week.......crayon drawing of an eye on painted & stamped paper
vintage fabric, tea stained calico, string stitched with embroidery thread,
used envelopes painted with watercolour, torn & glued, gesso around the edge drawn into while still wet, & aquarelle pencil,
book page painted with turquoise ink, buttons & felt figures glued on, & glittery ink stencils,
collage on block printed butcher's paper, stencil text, star strips & picture from a book,
collage using the same grid patterned painted paper as the first page, painted tissue paper, i found five faces in the papers & highlighted them with ink, & a number five from a magazine,
writing in wet gesso, sloshy blue watercolour,
torn  magazine paper, old hand written lists, & the ladies courtesy of the graphicsfairy.blogspot.com,
a collage on watercolour paper, the paper was painted with red acrylic, when dry tissue paper glued on & then the image of the girl (from wrapping paper), & more paint added to blend in the image.

Hair pretties

recently I had a book from the library on macrame...
it reminded me of my teenage years...
when we made friendship bracelets...
using embroidery threads...
so...
I had a bit of a fiddle...
couldn't get my fingers back into the more difficult 4 strands...
so I just played with 2 strands...
little Misses were interested...
so we added a bead on the end....
and made "hair pretties"...
there was a squabble over the love heart and the star beads...
so we did one of each...
amazing how quickly they sat to have their hair done...
as long as the pretties were added...

365 Creative Challenge 2013

i think today's page sums it up.......:".creativity is a big fat jump into the unknown'.
if you don't take that jump you won't know what you are missing out on.
i added some watercolour dots,  "green & purple" & a black  border to this advertisement & stuck it in my book!

365 Creative Challenge 2013

drew the flowers & leaves with a black faber castell pitt pen, just followed the shapes created by the texture medium & the patterns made by the paint. the petals are white acrylic with a bit of yellow watercolour in the centres.

a used envelope that i sloshed some watercolour on.......let it dry & tore a section off to fit the book page, & drew some trees with  black pitt pen. again i used some of the shapes that were created by the paint at the bottom of the paper to start the tree trunks.
